Bertha Gail Smith, 56, was born to Patricia A. Norbert and Rev. William M. Smith Jr. on March 17, 1970, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
She was baptized at Warren United Methodist Church as a child and later joined as a member of Lakewood Church in Houston, TX, where she resided for 30 years. She was a graduate of Lake Charles Boston High School Class of 1988. She furthered her education at the University of Southwestern Louisiana where she started her brief career in the medical field before attending Delta School of Business and Technology earning her degree as a Medical Records Specialist/Health Information Technician. Bertha acquired employment at Community Health Choice as an Appeals Coordinator where she was well respected and loved as she carried out the duties of her role.
Bertha loved the Lord and enjoyed praising and worshiping God. She had a bigger than life Spirit, she was kind to everyone she encountered and was always pouring into others. Bertha loved to shop, eat good food, travel, spend time with her family and a slew of friends. Bertha's favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not to your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path”.
On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, Bertha Gail Smith was called home by her Heavenly Father.
Bertha Gail Smith leaves to cherish her memories, three sisters, Tambra S. Mingo and Brother-in-law, Jarvis Mingo of Kaplan, LA, Cecile Mackey of Lake Charles, LA, and Diana Williams of Houston, TX; her nieces and nephews, D'Marlin K. Smith (Ace & Dylan), William Joubert, Paul Joubert Jr. (Annalise), Ethan Welcome (Rillie), Kylon and Brielle Welcome, Andrea (Ja'Karius), Demetria, Tawani (Leah, Terri, Melanie, Angel), Tarell, Darius (Kiana, Kaiden) along with a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia A. Norbert (Mackey) and Rev. William M. Smith Jr.; her maternal grandparents, Robert Norbert Sr. and Ethel Knatt Robertson; her paternal grandparents, William M. Smith Sr. and Thelma Cheatham Smith; one nephew, Dylon C. Welcome and her beloved sister, Ethel P. Smith.
