Obituary

With love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother, Edith Ray Simon, who passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, at the age of 95.

Edith was born in DeRidder, Louisiana to Nevel and Charles Goodwill on March 7, 1930. She lived a life full of faith, service, joy, and love. From a young age, she was a devoted member of Reeves Temple, where she sang in the choir, lifting her voice in praise and devotion. She also served faithfully in the Women's Missionary Society. Her faith was the foundation of her strength and guided her through every season of life.

As a young mother, Edith served as a Den Mother with the Cub and Boy Scouts, teaching leadership, kindness, and community to the next  generation. She was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she worked in service alongside her sisters in faith. Professionally, she contributed her talents to the Louisiana Client Council, where her compassion and wisdom helped many people throughout her career.

Edith loved to travel extensively and found joy in meeting new people and building lifelong friendships along the way. Known for her warm spirit, she welcomed friends, family, and strangers alike with open arms. She was a devoted mother and nurturer, always ready to listen, encourage, and support those she loved.

She is survived by her children: Ernest Simon Jr. (Theresa), Edith Prejean, Aletha Price, Joseph Simon, Bernadette Hunt (Henry), Mary Gallien (John), Ronald Simon (Donna), and Harry Simon. She also leaves behind beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts. She was preceded in death by spouse, Ernest Simon Sr.; parents, Charles and Nevel Goodwill; siblings, Geraldine Washington, Harold Goodwill, Charles Goodwill, and Bobby Jean Landry; and children, Cassandra Simon and Anthony Wayne Simon.
