Obituary

Sister Eva Lorene Gaines was born to parents James and Eva McClain in Havana, Alabama on May 10, 1938 and grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee graduating from Howard High School.

She married Carl E. Gaines on May 19, 1956 on the Southwestern Christian College campus and remained married until his passing. God blessed them with four children: Beverly, Deborah, Karla and David. Their beginnings at Mill Street in 1970 always held a special place in her heart. The community was hungry. They thanked God for Sis. Elarita Johnson and C.A. Redmond and their families who were already members of the church and with the help of South Union Church of Christ elders, Bro. Edgar Scott and the leadership of Boulevard Church of Christ, Mill Street Church of Christ began.

In the early years, it grew very fast. Everyone was there to invite friends and family to hear the gospel of Christ. Mill Street has always been a blessing to the community and the brotherhood, singing and ladies program conferences, reaching out to all of Louisiana and beyond. It was a blessing work for her.

One of her favorite bible verses: Ephesians 3:20 "Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we think, according to the power that works in us to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever amen."

She was preceded in death by her brother Allen George Leath, parents, Carl and Eva Worthy, James McClain, Dear Aunts Daisy Covington, Lillian Robinson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Beverly Gaines Cole (TX), Deborah Gaines (TX), Karla Gaines (TX), and David (Joyce) Gaines (TX), adopted son Abraham Lewis (LA), brother Carl Worthy,III (Shirley) (TN), sister La Grand Worthy Wright (CA).
