Evelyn Lavan John (Conway) passed from this life on September 29, 2025. She is preceded in death by her husband Austin John, her parents Rev. Eddie Conway and Eva Mae Duhon Conway, her siblings Edward, Abraham, Larry Conway, and Ida Bell Collins. She is succeeded by her siblings, Marie C. Asberry (Efford),  Francis C. Tezeno, Theresa Barrett, and Elizabeth Griffin, her children Angela Lavan of Katy, TX, Michael Lavan, Jr. (Stacey) of Houston, TX, Tasha Lavan Chapman, (Ray) of Elton, La. and Jacqueline Jackson (Kenyon) of Dayton, TX.  She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren Theresa, Eric, Tyler, Kaylie Beth, Alexander, Michala, Brady, Henry, Kenyon Jr., Josiah, Kendal, and a host of other neices, nephews and friends.

Evelyn grew up in Lake Charles and lived in Elton and Iowa for most of her life. She was a resident of the Kinder Retirement Center for several years prior to her death. She worked in various service industries during her lifetime including  banking, healthcare, and culinary services. She loved to cook, listen to "good" music, and gather with her family and friends. She fostered children for many years and never met a stranger. Her heart and her doors were always open to everyone. She was a mother to many, funny, and sassy and she will be missed dearly by those whose lives she touched.
