IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gloria Dean
Johnson
August 13, 1936 – December 13, 2023
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
Proverbs 31:10
Gloria Dean Johnson was born August 13, 1936, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to the late Leory and Lela Hagger. She entered eternal rest on December 13, 2023, in Sugar Land, Texas.
Gloria accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Emanuel Baptist Church. She remained a faithful member for decades and through several pastors.
Gloria is a 1956 graduate of W.O. Boston High School. She married her late husband, George Garland Johnson in May 1957. However, tragedy struck at a young age. A drunk driver killed her husband, leaving her with three young children and three months pregnant with her fourth child. She was 26 years old. Gloria spent her life dedicated to loving and supporting her children with an unbridled passion and exceptional strength. She fiercely protected them, while instilling in them compassion and a love of life.
Gloria was a feisty firecracker who willingly expressed her opinions on whatever subject she chose to whoever was available to hear. She had the gift of encouragement and enthusiastically encouraged her own children, those in the neighborhood, family members, friends, and anyone she felt the need to uplift.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Lela Hagger; her only son, Gregory Garland Johnson; her youngest daughter, Kimberly Ann Johnson; brothers, Morris and Ernest Hagger; sisters, Rosa Bea Lewis, Mae Ruth Johnson, and Roy Lee McKinley.
Her children left to celebrate an incredible life are Linda Darlene Brooks (Gary) of Missouri City, Texas, and Sandra Kay Johnson (Leonard Hango) of Cary, North Carolina. She also leaves to cherish her memories, two grandchildren, Gary J. Brooks II (Emily) of Houston, Texas, and Brianna Brooks of Las Vegas, Nevada; and two great-grandchildren, Mirabella Brooks and Kamari Brooks of Houston, Texas. In addition, she leaves to celebrate her life a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her feistiness and loving spirit.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
II Timothy 4:7
