Celebrating the Life and Legacy of
Jimmy LaFleur
Sunrise: March 26, 1956 | Sunset: August 20, 2026
A Life Remembered With Love
His Life and Legacy
Jimmy LaFleur was born on March 26, 1956, in Whiteville, Louisiana, to the late Yourick LaFleur Jr. and Mary LaFleur. On August 20, 2026, at the age of 70, Jimmy completed his earthly journey and went home to be with the Lord.
Jimmy spent his early years growing up in the Whiteville community, surrounded by family. His family later moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where Jimmy spent much of his young adult life and established roots that would remain an important part of his story.
Jimmy was a good man with a good heart. His life was filled with many experiences, triumphs, challenges, and struggles, but none of those things alone defined who Jimmy was. He was a son, a brother, a father, a husband, a grandfather, an uncle, a friend, and a hardworking man who possessed many talents.
Jimmy was especially gifted with his hands. He worked in construction for many years and could take on just about any job that required skill, hard work, and determination.
Later, Jimmy became the proud owner and operator of Jimmy Lawn Service, a business he operated for more than 30 years. Through his lawn service, Jimmy cared for the properties of numerous individuals and businesses throughout Lake Charles and the surrounding area. He took great pride in his work and became known for his ability to make a property look its very best.
Later in life, Jimmy moved to Alexandria, Louisiana, where another important chapter of his life began. It was there that he met the love of his life, Dorothy. Their relationship grew into a special companionship, and the two eventually married.
Jimmy continued his hardworking ways throughout his life. During his time in the Alexandria area, he performed industrial maintenance and cleaning work associated with refinery operations. Whatever the job may have been, Jimmy was never afraid of hard work. Working with his hands was simply a part of who he was.
His Faith
Jimmy was a member of The Church at Lake Charles Teaching Center, under the leadership of his brother, Pastor Frederick LaFleur. His church connection was an important part of his life and his family's story. Having his own brother serve as his pastor made that spiritual connection even more meaningful. Through the many seasons of his life, Jimmy remained connected to his family and his faith.
The Jimmy We Knew
If you knew Jimmy, then you knew one thing for sure: Jimmy could talk. A quick telephone call with Jimmy could easily turn into an hour or two. Once Jimmy started talking, there was no telling where the conversation might go. He could talk about life, family, work, football, music, old memories, or whatever else came to mind.
Those long conversations that may have seemed ordinary at the time are now precious memories that his family and friends will hold close to their hearts.
Jimmy also had a great love for music. He enjoyed many different styles and genres and had an incredible knowledge of music. You could almost call Jimmy a music genius. He loved listening to songs, remembering the artists, and talking about the music he enjoyed throughout his life.
And then there was football. In the LaFleur family, there has always been one very important question: Dallas Cowboys or New Orleans Saints? With Jimmy, the answer could depend on the day.
One day you might find him pulling for the Dallas Cowboys, and the next time you saw him, he might be cheering for the New Orleans Saints. Jimmy knew both sides of the rivalry very well. His father was a Cowboys fan, while other members of the LaFleur family, including one of his brothers and one of his sons, supported the Saints.
In a family where Cowboys versus Saints could turn into a serious conversation, Jimmy somehow managed to stand somewhere in the middle. Maybe that was Jimmy's way of keeping peace in the LaFleur family. He could talk football with everybody, no matter which side of the field they were on.
These are the memories that made Jimmy who he was: his conversations, his personality, his love for music, his football debates, his ability to work with his hands, his lawn service, and the many stories that could only belong to Jimmy LaFleur.
His Later Years and Journey Home
During the later years of his life, Jimmy resided at The Summit in Alexandria, Louisiana, for approximately seven years. The Summit became a part of Jimmy's journey and his home during that season of his life. He was cared for there as the years passed, while his family continued to love him and remain a part of his life.
During the final weeks of Jimmy's life, he was transferred from Alexandria back to Lake Charles, Louisiana, bringing him home and closer to his family.
Jimmy later entered Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles, where he received care during the final chapter of his earthly journey.
There is something especially meaningful to his family in knowing that after spending so many years away, Jimmy's journey ultimately brought him back home to Lake Charles. On the evening of August 20, 2026, surrounded by love and with his family close to his heart, Jimmy peacefully completed his earthly journey at the age of 70. He had come home.
Those Who Went Before Him
Jimmy was preceded in death by his loving parents, Yourick LaFleur Jr. and Mary LaFleur; his brother, Joseph LaFleur; and his beloved son, Corey LaFleur. Those Who Will Cherish His Memory
Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Dorothy; his sons, Marlon Alexander of Abbeville, Louisiana, and Kevin LaFleur of Oklahoma; his sister, Tammie Moore of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and his brothers, Pastor Frederick LaFleur, Calvin LaFleur, and Hilton LaFleur, all of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Jimmy also leaves behind a beautiful legacy through a host of grandchildren, bonus children, nieces, nephews, extended family members, relatives, friends, former customers, church family, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his 70 years of life.
Until We Meet Again
Jimmy LaFleur's life was uniquely his own. He worked hard. He loved his family. He loved his music. He could talk for hours. And depending on the day, he could cheer for the Cowboys or turn around and cheer for the Saints.
Jimmy knew struggles, but he also knew love. He knew family. He knew hard work. He knew companionship. He knew laughter. He knew faith. And God blessed him with 70 years of life and a lifetime of memories that his family can now carry forward.
There will never be another Jimmy quite like him.
The lawnmower has grown quiet. The long telephone conversations have ended. The music may sound a little different now. And when the Cowboys and Saints take the field, the LaFleur family will certainly have one less voice in the debate.
But Jimmy's story does not end here. It continues through his wife, his children and grandchildren, his brothers and sister, his nieces and nephews, his bonus children, his church family, and every family member and friend who carries a piece of Jimmy in their heart.
His story will continue every time someone tells one of those old Jimmy stories. Every time a song comes on that reminds someone of him. Every time the Cowboys play the Saints. And every time someone remembers that long telephone conversation that was supposed to last five minutes but somehow turned into an hour.
On August 20, 2026, Jimmy answered his final call and went home to be with the Lord.
Rest well, Jimmy. Your work here is done.
You were loved. You will be remembered. And you will be deeply missed.
