IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kevin Allen
Miller
April 15, 1962 – September 20, 2025
Kevin Allen Miller, 63, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away on September 20, 2025, in DeQuincy, Louisiana, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born into a U.S. Air Force family in Fairbanks, Alaska, on April 15, 1962, Kevin was the son of Lafayette Miller, Jr. (who preceded him in death) and Mary Jean (Lubin) Miller. He is survived by his mother; his siblings, Ronald, Jeffrey, and Jeanise; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who loved him dearly.
Kevin was known for his gregarious personality, adventurous spirit, and love of life. From an early age he was fascinated by fire—an interest that left him with impaired eyesight after an accident in his great- grandfather's garage, though he was too proud of his looks to wear glasses. His mischievous streak followed the family overseas, where he became something of a legend after accidentally setting a field ablaze in Spain, requiring the local fire department to respond.
A talented athlete, Kevin had a natural gift for sports, though he never much cared for practice. A baseball manager once remarked that if he could combine Kevin's talent with his brother Ronald's work ethic, he'd have the perfect ballplayer. After the family settled in Lake Charles following his father's retirement, Kevin continued to pursue adventure. Fearless by nature, he gained the admiration of neighborhood children for his daring encounters with snakes, lizards, and even wild pigs.
Kevin attended Lake Charles High School and Marion High School, graduating in 1980. He chose a hands-on career path, learning construction and repair skills from his grandfather, Melvin Lubin, who affectionately called Kevin his "heart." Under his grandfather's mentorship, Kevin managed rental properties and became highly skilled in home maintenance and improvement. His generosity matched his talents—when a friend lost her husband, Kevin stepped in to care for her home, easing her burdens during a difficult time.
Music was another passion, inherited from his father. Kevin was often asked to DJ at house parties and social gatherings, earning the nickname "Drac." A self-proclaimed lyrical genius, he had an encyclopedic knowledge of songs across genres and often charmed with a well-chosen lyric. He later married Edwardine Landry, whose children loved Kevin as a father figure. Though their marriage ended, Kevin remained close to the family, a testament to his kind and loving nature.
Though Lake Charles was home, Kevin lived at times in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and Baton Rouge, drawn wherever work or friendships took him. No matter where he went, his humor and playfulness brought joy to those around him. At family Christmas Eve gatherings, he often donned a Santa suit—delighting the adults and sometimes startling the children.
Kevin will be remembered as generous, funny, and larger than life—a man impossible not to love. He now rests with Jesus, in whom he placed his
deepest faith.
