IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Khyma D.
Burks Collins
March 12, 1967 – June 27, 2024
On the morning of June 27, 2024, and having found peace with God and her family, Khyma D. Burks Collins won her fight and departed this life in Lake Charles, LA. She was a beloved daughter, having been born to Felton Nelson Burks and Barbara Ann Reed on March 12, 1967 in Thibodaux, LA. She was a cherished and courageous mother, grandmother and inspiration to many.
Having dedicated her life to the Lord at a young age, Khyma received the gift of the Holy Ghost and set out to live her purpose: to show the love of God to any and everyone she would later come to meet. Having been blessed with the voice of an angel, she sang with and humbly directed many choirs over the course of her lifetime. Until she had taken ill, she was a dedicated member of Greater Freeman Church of God in Christ where she also sang with the Lake Charles District Choir. It was her love for music that led to her union, where she gave birth to her most cherished legacy: her children. They were everything to her; the very reason for her courageous battle for so long.
Khyma was so very loved by many, and the unconditional way in which she loved all will live in our hearts forever. She loved in a way that made all feel welcome, adopting the endearing nickname "Mom" from people of many different lifestyles over the years of her life. She had a heart that loved God, and with that same heart, she understood it was her mission in life to spread that love of God across the world. In doing this did she find the peace and joy that awaits her as her labor here on earth shall not be in vain.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her mother, Barbara Reed Seymore. 6 children: Kendall Burks, Jeremiah Collins, Naomi Collins, Waltresa Collins, Raven Collins, Danika Collins (Kacia). 13 grandchildren: Kyla McGuire, X'Zavier Williams, Ken'Naysha Burks, LaShantil Kennedy, Ken'melnaysha Thomas, Datrin Williams, Shalom Collins, Josiah Collins, Chamiya Collins, JaRon Collins, Alizeigh Flores, Adrian Flores, Judah Smith. 2 great grandchildren, Kaydan Williams & Kamilla Brown, an uncle, John Burks (Sherry), aunts Nancy Conrad, Evelyn Roddy & Ollie Mae Burks, a great uncle, Charles Reed, and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Felton Nelson Burks, her grandparents Thomas J. Reed, Eddie Burks Sr. and Corine Brooks Burks, her great grandmother Eva Reed, and her grandchildren Ja Niyya Collins & Aiden Flores.
