IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laura Bell
Woods Thierry
August 24, 1935 – December 25, 2023
Laura Bell Woods Thierry was one of 10 children born to Earl Sr. and Rose Woods in Elton, Louisiana on August 24, 1935. She was baptized at an early age at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, in Elton La. Upon moving to Lake Charles, LA she united with Pleasant Hill Baptist Church now under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Kieran D. Coleman Ph.D. She was married to the late Willie Douglas and to this union 4 children were born and then to the late Joseph Thierry to whom 6 children were born.
Laura was a very devoted, strong, and active Christian and was the "Mother" at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She always had a smile on her face and welcomed everyone to her home with praise, songs, worship, & love. Most people know her as "Granny", because she was a grandmother/mother to everyone. She read the bible and spread the gospel to teach her children & grandchildren the holy word. She was a staunch disciplinarian who did not play what-so-ever! She definitely believed in Proverbs 13:24 "Spare the rod and spoil the child", and Psalm 23… You couldn't tell Granny anything about her dogs, especially Cadillac, Boomer, Tiger, & Moto She even had her favorites at Lake Charles Care Center Retha and Roy (they were mechanical).
Granny loved her babies, children, and grandchildren. She would give her opinions and advice on just about anything. Family and friends know that Granny knew how to have a good time dancing, partying, feeding, gathering at family events, and reunions. She Definitely loved Rita's Family Kitchen. She'd dance and have a great time listening to Cookie & the Cupcakes "Mathilda" and "I Cried".
She is preceded in death by her husband Willie Douglas and Joesph Thierry. Her parents Earl Sr. & Rose Woods; son Steven Thierry; daughters Emma Douglas Brochette, and Mary Douglas Actlis; Two Step-Children: Sheryl Thierry and Joseph Thierry. Brothers: Lawrence J Woods, Earl Woods Jr., Robert Lee Woods, Leroy Woods. Sisters: Ida Mae Babineaux, Geraldine Moreau, Lovenia Comeaux, and Wilda "Marie" Ceasar.
She leaves to carry on her legacy 7 children Angelia (Charles) Lee, Lake Charles, La; Retha (Roy) Thomas, Stockton, Ca; Clinton Thierry, Lake Charles, La; Anthony Thierry, Dayton, TX; Earl (Samantha) Thierry Lake Charles, La; Thelma (Charles) Matthew Lake Charles, La; Gloria Viney, Stockton, Ca.; Step daughter Sheryl Thierry Stockton, CA.; Aunt Elrene Jack, Lake Charles, LA.
