Sister Martha Armstrong McClanahan, 94, died at 11:43 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, in a local hospital.

Her funeral will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 13, at Adile Baptist Church in Mangham. The Rev. Freddie Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Adile Church Cemetery under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In 2002, after the death of her husband, she moved to Lake Charles with her daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Raymond Fondel Sr. Later, she united with Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member until her death.

Sister McClanahan's life has been centered around God, family and church. She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted daughter, Esther (Raymond Sr.) Fondel of Lake Charles; two sons, Steward McClanahan Jr. of Harlem, N.Y., and Joe Acy McClanahan of Boston; and four grandchildren, Raymond (Juanita) Fondel Jr., Paul Fondel and Marla LaStrapes, all of Lake Charles, and Martha (Antonio) Smith of Monroe.
