Obituary

Steward McClanahan Sr., 91, of 544 McClanahan Road, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, in a Monroe hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of Rayville. He was a longtime member of Adile Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and president of the finance committee. He retired from the Richland Parish School Board as a bus driver after more than 28 years. He was one of the first groups of bus drivers at Alto High School. He was a commissioned deputy sheriff for Richland Parish. He was an honorary member of the Louisiana Sheriffs Program and a member of Alto Light Lodge 50. He was a senior adviser for Fondel Memorial Chapels of Lake Charles, Jennings and Kinder.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Armstrong McClanahan of Rayville; his daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Esther Mae McClanahan) Fondel Sr. of Lake Charles; two sons, Steward McClanahan Jr. of Manhattan, N.Y., and Joe Acy McClanahan of Boston; one sister, Emma McClanahan Brown of Baton Rouge; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

His funeral services will be at noon Saturday, April 20, in St. Joe Baptist Church in Rayville. The Rev. Andrew Jackson Jr. will officiate.
Burial will be in Adile Cemetery in Alto under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel of Lake Charles. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today in the Tenant Funeral Home in Rayville.
